How do we know ourselves better with psychological scales? It is different between measuring mental states with psychological scales and understanding ourselves by visiting psychiatrists (or psychologists). Psychiatrists or psychologists interpret clients with diverse clinical data from various sources, which is a highly dynamic process. In contrary, psychological scales are standardized, focusing on narrower dimensions of mental statuses. Those scales provides numerical impressions on abstract minds.Most psychological scales are in paper-and-pencil form when initially developed. There are some online scales in recent years. When the developer of PsyMeasure, which is a psychiatrist in Taiwan, works in a local clinic, he posts some static online scales on his website. However, he is not satisfied with those static scales because those scales are not convenient. Those scales are just static text on web pages, not real online scales. We may see some online scales; nevertheless, they don't scale well on mobile devices. Therefore, we developed PsyMeasure.
Psychological scales should and can not replace professional consultations with psychiatrists or psychologists. They are best as supplements for diagnoses and follow-ups. If you doubt the results in those scales in this application, you may discuss these results with your psychiatrists or psychologists.
