Eindrucksvolle Buchenwälder, kulturhistorische Sehenswürdigkeiten, das romantische Beketal, der höchste Punkt Paderborns und immer wieder fantastische Ausblicke sind die charakteristischen Merkmale des Paderborner Höhenwegs. Die gut 21 Kilometer lange Panoramatour verläuft beiderseits des Beketals auf angenehm zu gehenden Waldwegen.Eine Querverbindung ermöglicht eine 14 Kilometer lange Nord- und eine 10 Kilometer lange Südrunde.
Als Ausgangspunkt bietet sich das „Missionshaus“ im Ortszentrum von Neuenbeken an. Sanft, aber kontinuierlich steigt der Weg zunächst an. Dabei eröffnen sich großartige Weitsichten auf Bad Lippspringe, die Senne und den Teutoburger Wald. Rasch geht es hinunter ins Beketal. Nach Durchschreiten einer fast 100 Meter langen Bahnunterführung erreicht man das Dunetal, das vom Kleinen Viadukt überspannt wird - vor allem für PKW-Anreisende - und ebenfalls ein empfehlenswerter Startpunkt für die Wanderung ist.
Rund 150 Höhenmeter sind nun bis zur höchsten Erhebung Paderborns zu überwinden. Vorbei an der Buche mit den zwei Beinen und dem Pestfriedhof geht es – immer wieder mit schönen Ausblicken – zur ehemaligen Glashütte Uhden und dem Mausoleum der Glasmacherfamilie, bevor nach kurzem Abstieg der Ausgangspunkt Missionshaus wieder erreicht ist.
Seit September 2014 darf sich der Paderborner Höhenweg mit dem Prädikat "Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland" schmücken. Er reiht sich damit in die gut 100 Qualitätswanderwege in Deutschland ein.
