NDP merupakan perumusan tentang ajaran2 pokok Agama Islam, jaitu nilai2 dasarnja, sebagaimana tertjantum dalam Al-Kitab dan As-Sunnah.Semula sebagai kertas kerdja PB HMI periode 1966-1969 kepada Kongres IX di Malang, perumusan NDP ini kemudian mendapatkan pengesahan dari Kongres tersebut, dan atas mandat Kongres itu pula tiga orang telah ditundjuk untuk menjempurnakannja. Ketiga mereka itu, ialah sdr2 Nurcholish Madjid, Endang Saifuddin Anshari dan Sakib Mahmud. Jang ada sekarang ini adalah hasil penjempurnaan itu.
Kepada setiap anggota HMI, terutama para akivisnja, diharapkan membatja NDP. Pemahaman terhadap nilai2 itu diharapkan dapat menafasi perdjuangan kita dewasa ini dan seterusnja.
