Mungkin ada ratusan orkes melayu (OM) di Kabupaten Sidoarjo. Hampir semua desa/kelurahan ada orkesnya. Anggap saja satu desa satu OM, maka total ada 353 orkes. Padahal di beberapa desa OM-nya lebih dari satu.Namun, tentu saja tidak semua OM punya penggemar dan bisa manggung setiap hari. "Soale persaingan antarorkes makin ketat. Kalau nggak punya jaringan, link, ya habis. Kayak OM lawas yang tinggal nama itu," kata mas Takim yang menangani sebuah orkes terkenal tingkat kabupaten.
Dari ratusan orkes itu, OM Monata boleh dikata paling stabil sejak dulu. Eksis sejak 1990an, personelnya sudah senior, di atas 30 dan 40, tapi masih bisa melanglang ke mana-mana. Manggung hampir setiap malam. Ribuan penggemar selalu setia menanti Sodiq dkk ini. "Alhamdulillah, rezeki selalu ada saja. Sampai sekarang jadwal kami sangat padat," kata Sodiq, sang vokalis plus gitaris berambut gimbal ini.
OM Monata Sidoarjo terdiri dari 8 personel: Sodiq (vokal, gitar), Nono (gitar melodi), Juri (drum/kendang), Muji (bas), Anil dan Robi (keyboards), Slamet (suling), Hanafi (tamborin). Delapan pemusik inilah yang mengawal aransemen dangdut koplo dengan bumbu pop, hard rock, etnik, dsb. Kebetulan latar belakang mereka memang pemusik serba bisa yang biasa main pop atau rock.
