Shalat Jumat ini adalah shalat yang dilakukan dengan berjamaah bersama di waktu siang hari (dzuhur), namun pelaksanaannya berbeda dengan shalat Dzuhur. Jika shalat Dzuhur ini berjumlah empat rakaat, shalat Jumat mempunyai jumlah dua rakaat, yang sebelum pelaksanaannya didahului dengan dua khutbah terlebih dahulu.Dalam al-Qur’an sendiri juga terdapat surat yang dinamai dengan surat al-Jum’ah, surat yang ke 62. Dalam ayat sembilan pada surat tersebut juga terdapat penjelasan tentang pelrintah untuk melaksanakan shalat Jumat. Ayat tersebut berbunyi sebagai berikut
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِذَا نُودِيَ لِلصَّلَوٰةِ مِن يَوۡمِ ٱلۡجُمُعَةِ فَٱسۡعَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِ وَذَرُواْ ٱلۡبَيۡعَۚ ذَٰلِكُمۡ خَيۡرٞ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ٩
Artinya:
“Wahai orang-orang beriman, apabila diseru untuk menunaikan shalat Jum´at, maka bersegeralah kamu kepada mengingat Allah dan tinggalkanlah jual beli. Demikian itu adalah baik bagimu sekalian jika kamu mengetahui”
