Guru Sekumpul menjuluki beliau sebagai Abu Bakar bin Salim nya Indonesia...terkenal doanya yg mustajabbagaikan petir menyambar...pada awalnya beliau sering mengikuti pengajian di pesantren Kiai Achmad Shiddiq...tapi setelah kewalian beliau masyhur ganti Kiai Achmad Shiddiq yg mengikuti pangajian kitab Sohih Bukhori di kediaman Habib Sholeh.
Awal pejalanan suluk beliau dimulai ketika bertemu Nabi Khidir di stasiun Tanggul Jember...diriwayatkan beliau uzlah selama 5 tahun...kemudian beliau berangkat haji setelah mendapat isyarah dari datuknya Rasulullah saw untuk mengunjunginya di Madinah. Sepulang dari haji beliau kaget melihat rumahnya yg sederhana telah dipugar oleh masyarakat (sebagai penghormatan kpd beliau). Beliau mengatakan, "Padahal di rumah itu saya sholat berjamaah dg Rasulullah lima waktu". Beliau khalifahnya al Quthb Habib Abu Bakar Assegaf Gresik.
Habib Abu Bakar sendiri yg memakaikan imamah di atas kepala Habib Sholeh yg mulia...Diantara wirid harian beliau adalah dalailul khoirot..
