مزرعة الحيوان، حكاية حيوانات من خلالها يقدم جورج أورويل هجاءً ساخراً ونقداً للأنظمة الشمولية، ولإنسان السلطة وإنحرافاته.قررت الحيوانات ذات يوم، بعد أن حركتها المُثل العليا للخنزير العجوز "ميجر" أن تثور ضد سيدها، بأمل أن تعيش حياة مستقلة تسودها العدالة والتعاون والسلم بين الجميع، عندما سقطت المزرعة في يد الحيوانات ساد الإحترام للوصايا السبع التي تبجّل السلام، وتأكد التنوعَ القائم بينها، أما العدو فقد تم تحديده بوضوح: إنه الإنسان، وقد أجمعت الحيوانات على ذلك.
لكن الخنازير توصلت بسرعة إلى الإستئثار بالسلطة، فاستعبدت باقي الحيوانات واستغلت ذكاءها بهدف التحكم في مخاوفها وقامت بتحريف الماضي لمصلحتها، وتم تشويه المثل العليا بسرعة فائقة، المبادئ العامة تم إفسادها، فظهر الدكتاتور "نابوليون"، وأقام تقديساً للذاتية، ووضع الحيوانات الأخرى في حالة من الإذعان له، وأرهقهم في العمل المنهك.
