Description
SwissCovid is the official contact tracing app of Switzerland and is operated by the Federal Office of Public Health FOPH.SwissCovid will help to contain the new coronavirus. It complements the conventional contact tracing carried out by the cantons.
Using the SwissCovid app is voluntary and free of charge. The more people who install and use the app, the more effectively the app can help us to contain the new coronavirus.
However, it is still important to follow the rules on hygiene and social distancing. With a combination of the SwissCovid app, contact tracing and complying with the rules, we can continue to keep the coronavirus effectively in check.
Minimum technical requirements:
To use the app, the Android 6 operating system or newer must be installed on the smartphone.

Encounters function:
All you need to do is switch on Bluetooth and carry your phone at all times. The smartphone transmits encrypted IDs, known as checksums, via Bluetooth. These are long random strings of characters. Each checksum is deleted automatically from your phone two weeks after it is generated.
The app anonymously measures how long and how close it is to other smartphones that have the app installed. It records any encounters that it has with other phones (closer than 1.5 metres and for longer than 15 minutes in any one day), as these are the situations in which you are most likely to become infected with the virus.
Check-in function:
SwissCovid check-ins allow you to check in to a location or meeting with the app. In this way, you can be alerted if there is a risk of infection – regardless of the distance. Only your presence is stored in the app; you don’t have to leave behind any personal data.
You can also offer check-ins through the SwissCovid app. To do so, you generate a SwissCovid QR code in the app that people can use to check in on site.
How notification works
If a SwissCovid app user tests positive for the coronavirus, they will receive what is called a Covidcode. The code allows them to activate the notification function in their app. This alerts other app users with whom they were in close contact or who were checked in at the same location during the infectious period (two days before the onset of symptoms). When the Covidcode is entered, the app notifies these other app users automatically and anonymously.
The people who have been notified can find out in the app what to do next. Their privacy is protected at all times. Even if they don’t have any symptoms, a coronavirus test is advisable and recommended. If a person who has been notified has already developed symptoms of the disease, they should get tested immediately.
By working together in this way, we can all help to stop the spread of coronavirus.
Protecting privacy
The data that your SwissCovid app collects is only stored locally on your smartphone. The phone does not send any personal or location data to a central storage location or server. This means that no one can work out who you have been in contact with or where that contact took place. Once the coronavirus crisis is over, the system will be shut down.
The use of the app is limited to Switzerland and is subject to Swiss law.

How to install SwissCovid APK on Android phone or tablet?

5 ★The more people use it the better. PLEASE INSTALL THIS APP on your phone. It is privacy preserving. You may notice that It requires your phone having "location on" because it depends on some Google libraries that need it, but the app does NOT use those tracking features! As other computer scientists have mentioned, please trust us on this, this app is inoffensive. It can save lives, please install it.
5 ★I wish everyone in Switzerland would install this. As for UX, the English messages could be improved - I sent an email. (Bluetooth must remain on in order to track encounters. Turning on airplane mode? Follow-up by turning on bluetooth. Battery Saver mode also hinders the app.)
5 ★Nice layout, the functioning is easy explained, all the necessary information in there. For those who worry about Bluetooth and GPS - delete your accounts from all the messengers and social media platforms first. To have these options on is the least price everyone can pay in the current situation!
3 ★I support the project. But in my case it consumes a lot of battery and my phone do not reach the evening any more. That is also the moment of the day where I potentially meet more peoples. So it makes the application unuseful to me. Maybe an idea would be to have the possibility to define some criteria where the application stop itself. For example by checking for available wireless? I think the application don't need to run at home or at work (if it is not related with public). That would maybe save a lot of battery.
3 ★Went to dinner with 3 friends last week. A couple of days later 3 persons recieved a push notification (possible contact to a positive person from that date & time). I did not recieve a notification, although i was sitting at the same table with the others. For me, it remains questionable how efficient this tracing method really is... :-/
5 ★I have to often reset my android device and I suspect that every time I'm getting a new identifier. I don't know how feasible it's to add functionality of restoring an identifier from the cloud backup, but it would be awesome. Thank you.
3 ★The app is ok I guess, but it took 5 days until it showed up I had contact with a positive case (my brother). Way tooo long. May not be the app, but it took 4 days alone that he got the key to put in the app... Cool idea but not useful if it fails at human again...
5 ★Easy to setup and a simple design. For everybody worried about the location permission, there is a good FAQ answer where they explain that it is an android system requirement if you want to share data with bluetooth.
5 ★Good so far, I just downloaded and it gives you very clear notices that the device does not use GPS but requires location services to be enabled because of BLE. It means that other apps that can use GPS to track you are working also but the app itself does not seem to be a problem
1 ★You need to enable the location or the app does not work! This means that you can't use the app and prevent other apps or Google to track your precise locations. It may be true that the app does not use the locations, but the only way to have it working is allowing all the other apps and Google to track your locations. This is a grave loophole. I normally don't want apps to track me all the time, so I can't use this app. Please,inform user correctly!
1 ★Help line phone number not working and am aware that colleagues never received a code for the app with a positive test result. Clearly the infrastructure around the app has not been properly developed. Based on app statistics, would say the app is useful 10% of the time...obviously not enough.
