»Lessing VR« handelt von dem 18jährigen Jan, einem Hamburger Internatsschüler und seiner Oma Erika, die nach ihrer Arbeit am Theater in Hamburg zur Rente ihrem Mann in dessen Heimatstadt Wolfenbüttel gefolgt ist. Inzwischen verwitwet interessiert sie sich sehr für die Kultur und „ihren“ Lessing. Da kommt es gerade Recht, dass sich Jan bei ihr meldet und über seine Probleme mit Abitur im Allgemeinen und Lessings Werken im Besonderen berichtet. Da seine Eltern beruflich unterwegs sind nutzt er die Ferien und folgt der Einladung seiner Großmutter in die Stadt an der Oker. Gemeinsam begeben sich die beiden auf Spurensuche in Wolfenbüttel und erkunden das Schloss, das Meißnerhaus, die Herzog August Bibliothek, das Lessinghaus und die Hauptkirche Beatae Mariae Virginis. Im Anschluss nutzt der inzwischen recht begeisterte Jan sogar noch die Umsteigezeit in Braunschweig und besucht dort den Ort des ehemaligen Sterbehauses, das Denkmal und Lessings Grab und berichtet seiner Großmutter in kleinen Videos vor Ort davon.Die Geschichte der beiden Hauptdarsteller wird durch 360-Videos und durch die Charaktere von Jan und Erika, die in der Art von Playmobil-Figuren lebendig werden.
