এই গ্রন্থটি ১৪টি খন্ডে সমাপ্ত হয়েছে। আল্লামা ইবনে কাসীর (র) তাঁর এই গ্রন্থকে তিনভাগে ভাগ করেছেন।
প্রথম ভাগ: আরশ, কুরসী, ভুমন্ডল, নভোমন্ডল এতদুভয়ের অন্তর্বতী সব কিচু তথা ফেরেশতা, জিন, শয়তান, আদম (আ)-এর সৃষ্টি, যুগে যুগে আবির্ভূত নবী-রাসুলগণের ঘটনা, বনী ইসরাঈল, ইসলাম-পূর্ব যুগের রচনাবলী এবং মুহাম্মাদ (সা)-এর জীবন-চরিত আলোচনা করা হয়েছে।
দ্বিতীয় ভাগ : রাসুল (সা)-এর ওফাতকাল থেকে ৭৬৮ হিজরী সাল পর্যন্ত সুদীর্ঘ কালের বিভিন্ন ঘটনা এবং মনীষীদের জীবনী আলোচনা করা হয়েছে।
