Pendapat ini dinukil dari Ibn ‘Abbas, Ibn Umar, ‘Aisyah, Fatimah anak Rasulullah saw, dan dengan ini al-Qashim, Urwah, ‘Atha, al-Zuhri, Ishaq, Abu Tsaur, dan yang lainnya berpendapat
2) Fardu dan wajib. Ini adalah pendapat Mazhab Dzahiri, dan pendapat pemimpin Mazhab Dzahiri, yaitu Dawud dan Ibn Hazm. Pendapat wajib diriwayatkan juga dari Buraidah al-Aslami seorang sahabat Nabi saw, dan Abu Zinad, dan ini pendapat al-Hasan al-Bashari, namun ia berpendapat yang wajib itu adalah kepada anak laki-laki bukan perempuan dan pendapat wajib itu diriwayatkan dari Imam Ahmad, dan pendapat ini yang dipilih oleh sekelompok Mazhab Hanbali dan dengan ini Syaikh al-Bani berpendapat
3) Mazhab Hanafi dalam pendapatnya ada tiga pendapat
Tathawwu, siapa yang ingin mengerjakannya maka silahkan dan siapa yang mau meninggalkannya maka silahkan meninggalkannya, ini dikatakan oleh al-Thahawi dan Ibn ‘Abidin
