He had followed his mentor to the Reichenbach Falls. After witnessing the death of his leader, caused by Holmes, Moran had tried to kill the detective by causing an avalanche of rocks on him. Holmes, however, managed to escape. Moran swore to kill Holmes, but he dropped Moran into a trap, causing his arrest.
He therefore resumes service from 1894 to 1903 [ref. necessary]. He received the Legion of Honor in 18948, but refused the title of Knight in 1902.
A retreat took place in the countryside in 1907, where Holmes spent his last years studying bees and writing a treatise on beekeeping. He will leave this activity to serve his country on the eve of the first world war by foiling the tricks of a Prussian spy (His last bow stroke), and finally to narrate himself some adventures (like The Mane of the lion), having then practically no contact with Dr. Watson.
