Surah Al Waqiah terdiri atas 96 ayat dan merupakan surat ke 56 dalam Al Quran. Surat ini termasuk kedalam golongan surat-surat Makkiyah, diturunkan sesudah Surat Thaha. Pada ayat pertama surat ini, terdapat lafadz Al Waaqi'ah yang dijadikan sebagai dasar pengambilan nama Al Waaqi'ah (Hari Kiamat).Pokok Isi yang terkandung dalam surat Al Waaqi'ah diantaranya adalah menceritakan tentang keimanan, hura-hura pada waktu hari kiamat, waktu dihisab ma usia terbagi kedalam 3 golongan, yaitu golongan kanan atau golongan yang selalu bergegas atau berlomba-lomba terhadap kebaikan, dan golongan kiri ialah golongan yang celaka atas perbuatan yang dilakukannya, serta dalam ayat ini juga menceritakan tentang bantahan Allah s.w.t. terhadap golongan yang mengingkari adanya Tuhan, hari kebangkitan, dan adanya hisab, gambaran tentang neraka dan Allah s.w.t menegaskan bahwa Al-Qur'an berasal dari Lauhul MahFuuzh.
