زیارت عاشورا که زیارت مخصوص حضرت سیدالشهدا(ع) است و خواندن آن ثواب زیادی دارد، بر اساس یک حدیث قدسی است که از امام باقر و امام صادق علیهما السلام نقل شده است. در کتاب مصباح المتهجد نوشته شیخ طوسی آمده است که یکی از اصحاب آن بزرگان که علقمةبن محمد حضرمی نام داشت، از ایشان درخواست کرد تا دعایی به او یاد بدهند که اگر مزار مطهر امام حسین(ع) را از نزدیک زیارت کرد، آن دعا را بخواند و اگر هم نتوانست به کربلا سفر کند و از نزدیک آن حضرت را زیارت کند از راه دور و حتی از منزلش به امام حسین (ع) سلام کرده و آن دعا را بخواند. امام باقر(ع) هم در جوابش فرمود: «هروقت دو رکعت نماز بخوانی و بعد از سلام دادن، به‌سمت مزار شریف امام حسین(ع) رو کرده و با اشاره تکبیر بگویی و این زیارت را بخوانی، همان دعایی را خوانده‌ای که فرشتگان در زمان زیارت امام حسین(ع) می‌خوانند»التماس دعا
