No contact is created on the device, so you don't need to save the number on your contacts list in order to open the chat. Simply open the app, enter the number, click the button and the chat will open (if the number exists, otherwise will notify it).
Prefix:
You need to specify the prefix of the number, even if it is from your own country. You can enter the prefix manually or, if you don't remember the prefix of a specific country, you can tap the + button to show a list to choose from. The prefix will be kept when reopening the app.
Hidden shortcut: long tap the + button to show the list sorted by prefix instead of country.
Recents list:
When a number is opened it is saved on a recents list, in case you want to open a number again and you don't remember the number. If you actively open a number remember you can create a shortcut on your launcher directly from (from the chat: menu, more, create shortcut).
Hidden shortcut: long tap the recents button to delete the list.
