در نیمه دوم قرن هفده و اوایل قرن هیجدهم میلادی در زمان قادر خان (خان ایل گوگلان) شخصی به نام مختومقلی یوناچی (1654 – 1720 م) جد مختومقلی فراغی زندگی می کرد. یوناچی پیشه آهنگری و زرگری داشت. او صاحب فرزندی شد که به نام پدر متوفای یوناچی، دولت محمد مسمی گردید. وجه شهرت دولت محمد به قری ملا نیز بدین خاطر بود که پدرش یوناچی در سن پیری صاحب فرزند شده بود. یوناچی جد مختومقلی فراغی دستی در شعر و شاعری داشته است اما آثار باقی مانده او بسیار کم است.دولت محمد یکی از علمای بزرگ و مورد احترام و طرف مشورت ایلات زمانه خود محسوب می شد و با تخلص آزادی آثار پر ارجی را به وجود آورده است. دولت محمد آزادی در 1700 میلادی متولد و در 60 سالگی وفات یافت و مختومقلی فراغی در مرثیه پدر به نام «آتامینگ» به سن فوت پدر اشاره می کند. آزادی همسری به نام ارازگل داشته و صاحب 6 فرزند بود و مختومقلی فراغی فرزند سومین ایشان بود.
تولد وی در در سال 1733 م و وفاتش 1790م ذکر شده است، لیکن اخیرا دست نوشته ای پیدا شده است که گویا در آن مختومقلی با «ذنوبی» شاعر معروف در سال 1797 م مناظره شاعرانه داشته است. اگر بتوان با تکیه به این سند قضاوت کرد وفات وی حداقل هفت سال دیرتر یعنی سال 1797 یا بعد از آن باید باشد.
