IntroductionCe dictionnaire vous permette de découvrir la langue dioula /jula du Burkina Faso. En cliquant sur le bouton de « recherche » (la petite loupe en haut à droite), une fenêtre s’ouvre et vous pouvez taper des mots en dioula, français, anglais ou allemand. Tapez « chercher » et une nouvelle fenêtre va afficher les résultats.
Parfois on dit que le dioula (aussi écrit «jula» ou bien «dyula») est un «bambara simplifié» ou encore que le dioula est un «bambara commercial». On dit même que le dioula est relié au bambara de la même façon que l'anglais des États-Unis est lié à l'anglais de l'Angleterre. D'autres vont si loin pour dire qu'on peut considérer que les termes dioula, bambara et malinké désignent en fait la même langue, le mot dioula étant utilisé en Côte d'Ivoire et au Burkina Faso alors que les mots bambara et malinké sont plus en usage au Mali. Certains linguistes considèrent qu'il s'agit de trois langues, certes très proches au plan oral, mais nettement identifiées, appartenant au groupe des langues Mandé.
Pour beaucoup de locuteurs au sud-ouest du Burkina Faso le dioula n'est pas leur langue maternelle, mais ils le parlent couramment dans la vie quotidienne lorsqu'ils côtoient des gens de différents groupes ethniques.
Le dioula est parlé par plus de 12 millions de personnes, dont plus de 3 millions au Burkina Faso, le reste se répartissant principalement entre la Côte d'Ivoire et le Mali.

Some people describe Dioula as a simpler language or trade language of Bambara while others say that Dioula is related to Bambara as American English is related to British English. Some consider Dioula, Bambara and Malinke as the same language, implying that Dioula describes the same language in Côte d'Ivoire and in Burkina Faso and that Bambara and Malinke are names for the same language used in Mali. But, linguists consider each one as a distinct language, clearly identified as three languages of the Mandé family. Dioula is spoken by around 12 million people, 3 million of them live in Burkina Faso, the rest in the neighboring countries.
