舞台は文明も然程発展していない時代。人々は農業や酪農で主に生計を支え、移動手段も徒歩か荷馬車を用いていた。
街を一歩踏み出すと治安も決して良いとは言えない為、腕に覚えのあるならず者が傭兵として雇われたりしていたのだった。
そんな中、少女セリアは偶然立ち寄った街ローエンスにて一人の青年ロスティと出会う。 二人はヴォルムの村で発生した変死事件の調査に赴くこととなった。セリアが護衛としてロスティを雇うという形で。
二人は道中、不自然な風を操る刺客に襲われるもセリアの知識とロスティの運動能力で辛くも迎撃。
やがて刺客に襲われた以外の危険はなく無事ヴォルムの村に辿り着いた二人。契約内容である護衛もこの村に着くまでということでそれぞれの道を歩み出すセリアとロスティ。
ロスティは当初の予定通り、護衛の任を無事遂行したことで、この村で出来る仕事を探していた。
しかし、変死事件が解決しないことには住人達の不安が募る一方の為、最優先事項として変死事件以外の仕事にはありつけなかった。
仕方ないと諦めて翌日、ローエンスへ戻る旅支度を整えるのだった。
一方、セリアは長期滞在は元々覚悟の上だったので、大通りから一本外れた安宿でチェックインを済ませていた。
そして、数日に渡りセリアは変死事件の情報収集に精を出した結果、事件現場に遭遇することに成功したのだった。
しかし、首謀者はセリアの身近な人物で・・・・・・
