رواية الفضيلة أو بول وفرجيني رواية صاغها الكاتب والأديب المصري المعروف مصطفى لطفي المنفلوطي بعد ترجمته لها من اللغة الفرنسية وجعلها بعنوان الفضيلة وتسرد هذه القصة عدة احداث لعل من أهمها الحب العذري لبول وفرجيني لبعضهما، والمكافحة لأجل بقاء وديمومة هذا الحب خالدا للأبد في قلوبهم الندية. وهي في الأصل للكاتب الفرنسي برناردين دي سان بيير من أدباء القرن التاسع عشر في فرنسا وكتبت في عام 1789م.أما فيرجيني فلم تخف ولم تطش , بل لبثت في مكانها كما هي , وقد علمت أن الساعة آتية لا ريب فيها , فضمت قميصها إلى جسمها بيدٍ , ووضعت يدها الأخرى على قلبها , وسبحت بنظرها في الفضاء , فأصبح منظرها منظر ملك كريم يطير بجناحيه في جوَّ السماء. وما هو إلا أن أغمض الواقفون عيونهم جزعاً من هذا المنظر الهائل المخيف , ثم فتحوها فإذا البحر قد ابتلع كلَّ شيء, وإذا كلُّ شيء قد انقضى. " الفضيلة " إحدى كلاسيكيات الأدب , ذلك الإنتاج الأدبي الذي يعود بنا إلى إبداع العصور الماضية , ولكن في صورة حداثية سلسة ميسرة , لنبحر في الماضي بمجداف المستقبل. وإذ يصحبنا المنفلوطي في هذه الرحاب الأدبية , نلمس تعريبه للروايات الأجنبية حتى كأن أحداثها كانت على أرضنا نحن , يستلهم روح الرواية ثم يفرزها بروح عربية أصيلة تلمس روح القارئ ووجدانه.
