A Energia 97 FM é sucessora da 97 FM, estação fundada em Santo André (SP) em 1983 e que tinha sua programação especializada em rock. Em dezembro de 1994, a antiga 97 Rock foi extinta e foi criada a Hot Nine Seven, voltada ao Eurodance (conhecido no Brasil genericamente por dance music)!Durante curto período de 1999, tentou se reposicionar como rádio popular especializada em pagode, axé e sertanejo. Entretanto, não obteve sucesso nem audiência e retornou à programação baseada em música eletrônica. Em 2009, lançou nova programação visual, refletida em sua nova logomarca.
Faz parte de sua grade o renomado programa Estádio 97, mesa-redonda humorística de futebol, e também o programa Energia na Véia que transmite no período das 07h00 às 10h00 músicas eletrônicas que fizeram sucesso nos Anos 70, Anos 80 e Anos 90.
Dois programas da rádio receberam o Prêmio APCA: "Energia na Véia" em 2007 e "O Programa do Palhacinho" (Morde e Assopra) em 2011. A rádio também organiza o festival Spirit of London e o Cruzeiro do Energia na Véia.
Atualmente é a Rádio Jovem mais ouvida em SP e a única no ranking com segmentação à dance music.
