Aplicativo oficial da Biblioteca Pública do Espírito Santo.A Biblioteca Virtual do Espírito Santo disponibiliza para o público em geral o seu acervo histórico digitalizado, com quantidade crescente de obras raras.
A Biblioteca Pública do Espírito Santo foi fundada em 16 de julho de 1855 em uma das salas do segundo pavimento do Palácio, no governo do Presidente da Província Sebastião Machado Nunes, por iniciativa de Braz da Costa Rubim (1812-1871), que doou os 400 primeiros volumes do acervo, entre brochuras e folhetos.
Como quinta biblioteca pública estadual criada no país, ganhou notoriedade e suporte administrativo pela Lei nº 19, de 10 de maio de 1880, tendo sido instalada em sede própria na Praia do Suá em 1979 no Governo Élcio Álvares. Ocupa uma área edificada de 1.458,5m2, onde podem ser encontrados clássicos da historiografia e da literatura capixaba e obras raras, em geral produzidas e/ou localizadas no Espírito Santo.
Em 17 de dezembro de 2004, pela Lei 7.958, passou a ser denominada Biblioteca Pública Estadual Levy Cúrcio da Rocha, em homenagem a este historiador capixaba. Entidade de caráter cultural, a Biblioteca Pública do Espírito Santo é vinculada à Secretaria de Estado da Cultura - SECULT -, com sede em Vitória, capital do Estado.
