3 ★New update is terrible, the ad at the top of the inbox looks exactly like the emails. Alot more complicated to get into my saved folders. Everytime I go into an old email in a saved folder it brings me back to the inbox when I back out of it instead of staying in the folder. I've had AOL for years and have some bills that still use this email. I may have to switch them over to my Gmail so it's easier for me to keep track of them.
4 ★Edit: Played around with the settings and found that corrected the small font issue I was having. I upgraded my review to 4 stars. I mostly just use the email portion of the app. The recently updated AOL app on my phone now has such a small font, and tries to show so much content on the small screen, that I can barely read it. The new layout makes the app nearly useless to me. What a disappointment.
4 ★I like the new layout. My only issue is with folders. Some of my folders reside under the "saved" folder while the rest remain outside of the "saved" folder. Why? I'm 50/50 on the email sender icons. I think they result in confusion and should be smaller. However, there is a way to switch them back to checkboxes in settings. Don't like that news appears first (home). Should be email. Ad at the top of email needs to go as it looks like email. Not all email populates at the same time either.
1 ★The update to the app is awful. I have to constantly delete and reload to get all of my mail to show, it's more difficult to navigate, and the aesthetic is almost... bulky. I don't care for it opening to the news instead of going straight to mail, my folders are all messed up, and the search function doesn't work at all. If I wanted to use Google Mail, I would, but I never cared for their setup. Please PLEASE give us back the old version. Don't try to fix what isn't broken.
1 ★Much less user friendly than the old version. When you reply to a message it goes immediately to old mail before you can delete it. The previous version let you delete first. Focus always seems to be a few emails down so I have to scroll up to see the first ones. It asks for confirmation when deleting from trash which I didn't have to do before. Don't like the look and feel either.
2 ★This latest update is not user friendly for me to view my email. 1. The Ads look similar to an email. The Ad used to have a box around the ad to distinguish the difference between email and Ad. I have repeatedly click on unwanted Ads. 2. I also don't have the option to set the display when I open the app. I miss the old view where I could see my old mail and folders.
1 ★HORRIBLE! I cannot find anything on the updated app. The look is overwhelming. I cannot locate my flagged emails any longer, or find where I starred an email, not knowing that the star means to add to contacts. I thought the star in the updated app meant flag. It is HORRIBLE! I never write reviews, but because email communication has become super important during this pandemic, this new update has not made my life easier. It has made it harder. Did I say, it is horrible? This update is horrible.
1 ★I absolutely hate the new layout which can only be viewed in portrait. The design looks as though it has been built by a complete amateur. I have had an account since the very beginning and the look and operation was the decider for me as at the time all the other free trials on cdrom were just like this app is now, dodgy looking and if I was a new customer I wouldn't give it a second look.
1 ★I hate this new app !!! Why couldn't you leave it the way it was? It's really annoying. When I go to it and look to see what's there, it's hard to see what's there and who's sending it. Those colored initials in the mostly round circles is very distracting! I hate it!! PLEASE change it back or give us the choice to keep it the old way. I've had AOL forever. If I wanted something different I would have left AOL a long time ago. I liked AOL because I could count on it always being the same. Yuck!!
2 ★Many years user here. The new app has two major flaws I can see so far. It does not allow for screen rotation when I move my phone. That is a problem when I get emails that have a lot of small text and it can't rotate to increase text size without changing settings. Second, it will not allow me to attach a picture as an attachment. It only inserts the image into the body of the email. Many times the inserted email image does not make it to the recipient.
3 ★AOL makes it very difficult to access personal settings on the acccount if you've happened to forget security questions. I was on the phone with a rep for 20 minutes, and she would not work around it with me. Update 4-22-21 Then, I get a response about my disappointment with customer service saying that there's nothing they can do from this rating section. They said I should call customer service. 😆
2 ★User Unfriendly. So called upgrade has made it annoying to use. Too much clutter, cumbersome to navigate to folders and to mark messages unread. Doesn't update as quick when messages are read. I could go on... But I won't, you get the idea. At one point this was a better user experience than the Gmail app. That's now much better, this has gone downhill, very disappointing.
