Piazza Trento e Trieste è piena di gente. Gente che passeggia, scambia quattro chiacchiere con gli amici, commenta gli ultimi avvenimenti, si gusta la bella serata estiva. È il 24 giugno 1929, festa di San Giovanni. Monza, allora famosa nel mondo per la produzione di cappelli, si prende un meritato momento di svago e riposo. La giornata dedicata al patrono della città, del resto, sembra fatta apposta per iniziare un giretto in centro e per allacciare nuove conoscenze. Ma c’è anche chi si occupa d’altro: alcuni cappellai, nonostante il giorno di festa, stanno discutendo animatamente sulle differenti tecniche di lavorazione. A poca distanza, un gerarca fascista, tutto impettito e pomposo nella sua uniforme, illustra ai camerati il grande e sfolgorante destino che attende l’Italia. Al Caffè del Tamburon, intanto, non c’è un tavolino libero: un poco in disparte, un gruppo di giovanotti parla di sport e non si perde nemmeno un passaggio delle belle ragazze che passano lì vicino.Il cameriere, finalmente, arriva con un vassoio carico di caraffe piene di vino, ghiaccio, gassosa e fettine di limone. C’è anche un pacchetto di sigarette. Ad un certo punto, un ragazzo apre il pacchetto ed estrae una figurina: riproduce lo stemma nero e azzurro della Dominante di Genova. La figurina della squadra ligure, militante in serie A nel 1928 e nel 1929, passa di mano in mano. La casualità si unisce alla concretezza e alla praticità brianzole. L’entusiasmo non manca, ci sono idee e la voglia di fare. Ci sono anche i soldi: ognuno mette a disposizione 10 lire per l’acquisto delle maglie. Il primo, sudato «capitale sociale» è raccolto in un attimo. Di parole ne servono poche, saranno i fatti a parlare: anche Monza avrà la sua Dominante, anche Monza avrà un blasone nerazzurro. Bastano un brindisi e una promessa per sancire la nascita della società. Sarà l’inizio di una magnifica avventura.
