La creación de la radio Centro Espírita Luz y Progreso surge bajo el anhelo de su médium, Hermana Margarita Martel Guerra, de difundir no sólo las actividades de nuestra organización, sino también de la doctrina espírita. Transformarse, además, en un espacio de autoconocimiento, relajación y consolidación de la fe absoluta para los diferentes auditores, entre los que podemos encontrar, en su mayoría, pacientes que asisten a las dependencias del Centro.El Centro Espírita “Luz y Progreso” fue fundado el 12 de abril de 1985. Es una institución social-comunitaria sin fines de lucro cuyo objetivo es ser una casa de acogida, que otorga una atención médico-espiritual a todas las personas que necesiten de una ayuda física, mental y espiritual para contrarrestar sus diferentes enfermedades y dolencias, a través de sesiones de sanación y oración, terapias complementaria y diversas actividades deportivo-recreativas que actúan como un complemento al tratamiento médico terrenal.
Sus sesiones se realizan cada semana: miércoles y sábado - Y la atención entregada a cada paciente es totalmente “gratuita”. Se atiende a todo aquel que llegue a sus dependencias a solicitar asistencia para su patología médica sin distingo de: raza, sexo, religión, política, condición socioeconómica, orientación sexual, etc.
Este centro de acogida y Espírita está integrado por más de 200 pacientes estables entre: profesionales, dueñas de casa, estudiantes, personas en situación de calle, alcohólicos, drogadictos, enfermos catastróficos y con diversas patologías médicas, entre otros. La gran mayoría son de muy escasos recursos y provienen de diversos sectores vecinales, populares y vulnerables de Antofagasta y de toda la región; sus edades fluctúan entre 1 y 90 años, entre: niños, jóvenes, adultos y adultos mayores, siendo éstos últimos los que mayor participación tienen en este centro de sanación.
