ইমাম তিরমিযী প্রণীত ‘আল-জামে' কতিপয় অনন্য বৈশিষ্ট্য মণ্ডিত যা তাঁকে হাদীছ শাস্ত্রে এক সুউচ্চ স্থানে অধিষ্ঠিত করেছে এবং তাঁকে এক বিশেষ স্বাতন্ত্র্য দান করেছে।সুনান আত-তিরমিজী বা জামি আত তিরমিজী মুসলমানদের সবচেয়ে প্রসিদ্ধ ছয়টি হাদিস গ্রন্থের মধ্যে অন্যতম একটি। অর্থাৎ এটি সিহাহ সিত্তাহের একটি কিতাব। তিরমিজি শরিফে সিহাহ সিত্তাহ অর্থাৎ সুন্নি মুসলমানদের প্রসিদ্ধ ছয়টি হাদিস গ্রন্থের অন্যতম একটি হাদিস গ্রন্থ।তিরমিজি শরীফের সংকলনকারী আবু ঈসা মুহাম্মদ ঈসা ইবনে তিরমিজী। তিনি ইমাম তিরমিজি নামেই বেশি পরিচিত। এ কিতাবে প্রায় সব ধরনের হাদিসই সংকলন করা হয়েছে। এই কিতাবে প্রায় চারহাজারের বেশি হাদীস সংকলিত রয়েছে।
তিরমিজি শরীফ কিতাবটি চারটি শ্রেণীতে সাজানো হয়েছে। সেগুলো নিম্নরূপ:
১. প্রথম সেইসব হাদীস যা বুখারী ও মুসলিম এর সাথে সম্মত।
২. দ্বিতীয় সেইসব হাদীস যা বুখারী ও মুসলিম এর চেয়ে নিম্নমানের কিন্তু তিরমিজী, নাসাই ও দাউদের সাথে সম্মত।
৩. তৃতীয় সেইসব হাদীস যা নিয়ে কিছু মতবিরোধ রয়েছে। সে ক্ষেত্রে তিনি এর মতবিরোধতাকে কিছুটা মীমাংসা করে সংকলন করেছেন।
৪. চতুর্থ সেই হাদীসসমূহ যা ফিকহ বিশেষজ্ঞের সাথে সম্মত।
