A Bugac község határában található Monostordomb környezetében 2010 óta zajlanak régészeti feltárások, melyek azóta rendre szenzációs árpád-kori leletekkel örvendeztetnek meg minket. A monostort 1130 és 1140 között alapította a Becs-Gergely nemzetség, mely a kor kiemelkedő főúri családja volt. A nagy fontosságú hadi valamint kereskedelmi út mellett elterülő település a 12-13. század fordulójára a Duna-Tisza közének gazdasági és szakrális központjává nőtte ki magát. Az akkor hatalmasnak kiterjedésűnek számító és városias jellegű település pusztulását egyértelműen az 1241-42. évi Mongol invázió okozta.
