לשכת עורכי הדין בישראל הוקמה בשנת 1961 כגוף אוטונומי שמוסדותיו העיקריים נבחרים בבחירות דמוקרטיות, ע"י כלל עורכי הדין, על-פי חוק לשכת עורכי הדין, התשכא – 1961.הלשכה היא תאגיד ועומדת לביקורת מבקר המדינה.
