Au début du xxe siècle, le développement de la science et ses applications dans les domaines de l’architecture, de la robotique et de l’imagerie spatiale, nourrissent l’imaginaire des artistes et font émerger une nouvelle esthétique, tour à tour poétique, futuriste ou utopique.
De la représentation des métropoles modernes à celle d’un espace devenu accessible, de la mécanisation de la société à l’univers fantasmé de la science-fiction, la prééminence de la science a radicalement transformé l’imaginaire des artistes et ouvert un nouveau champ des possibles.
Cet esprit visionnaire, qui anticipa ce qui allait bientôt advenir dans la réalité, est à l’origine des avant-gardes qui transformèrent radicalement la représentation artistique.
Futurs, de la ville aux étoiles retrace, à travers plus d’une centaine d’œuvres – Malevitch, Léger, Kupka, Ernst, Matisse, Calder, Miró, Mondrian, Kandinsky, Klein, Erró – les grands mouvements artistiques du xxe sie`cle a` aujourd’hui et éclaire les liens et les influences unissant l’art à la science.
