La tercera parte tiene una importancia especial. En ella Zaratustra plantea la doctrina del "eterno retorno". Nietzsche expone esta doctrina empleando gran cantidad de símbolos y discursos alegóricos de gran belleza lírica.
La cuarta y última parte presenta a un Zaratustra anciano y desanimado ante el fracaso de su tarea, pero que todavía tiene la fuerza suficiente para reivindicar la necesidad de aquellos que denomina "hombres superiores". Éstos serán los únicos que podrán comprender su doctrina y vivir según la filosofía que Nietzsche representa: son los verdaderos "superhombres", que habrán anulado la mediocridad de la cultura occidental y constituirán una nueva clase de filósofos.
