Description
Oral biology and pathology are an integral aspect of dentistry. These specialties are usually covered during the first three years of undergraduate and also in many postgraduate dental curriculum.The practical sessions are an important part of the curriculum. It is conducted with a blend of all domains of education; for effective learning. This digital platform is designed with an objective to establish connection between face to face and distant learning. This can also be a practical guide for the students and reference for the teachers.
In this O-Bio-Patho app, we have tried to include component of oral anatomy, dental anatomy, biopsy and tissue processing, staining, oral histology and oral pathology. The app is divided into six sections. First section comprise of overview of the application, followed by description of biopsy and tissue processing. Dental anatomy section comprise of description of tooth nomenclature with examples, anatomical landmarks with its definition followed by detailed description and illustrative diagram of all aspect of permanent teeth. Oral biology and oral pathology section comprise of descriptions and illustrations of numerous hard and soft tissue specimens. Specimens of normal tissues and common oral and maxillofacial pathology cases are presented.
The description of the cases are obtained from standard text books and prepared after thorough discussion among the faculties. The diagrammatic illustrations are prepared following the representative microscopic focus of the slides corresponding with the colors of routine and special stains from the department. The illustrations are displayed with option to view with or without labels, which prepares the users for self-assessment. Users can post feedbacks related to the content and the design in the feedback section for possible betterment of this application.
