De Zonnebloemschool heeft het predikaat Excellente School 2014 gekregen. Dat geldt zowel voor het speciaal onderwijs als het voortgezet speciaal onderwijs van de school.Excellente scholen zijn scholen die zowel op de kernvakken als daarbuiten zeer goede resultaten behalen. Ook kijkt de jury naar de aandacht die er is voor leerlingen die het erg goed doen of voor leerlingen die juist extra hulp nodig hebben.
Maandagmiddag werden de predikaten uitgedeeld in de Koninklijke Schouwburg in Den Haag. De Zonnebloemschool werd een jaar geleden ook al uitgeroepen tot excellente school. Het aantal scholen met dat predikaat is in Nederland toegenomen tot 106, maar in Flevoland is de Zonnebloemschool de enige.
