Idealizado pela Dra. Adriana Brasil, cirurgiã de cabeça e pescoço, o projeto é composto por profissionais renomados na área da saúde que prestam atendimento humanizado, inter e transdisciplinar.
O objetivo principal do instituto é atender especialmente a população de baixa renda para abreviar ao máximo o tempo de espera entre o aparecimento dos principais sintomas e o início do tratamento dos oito tipos de câncer mais comuns: mama, próstata, intestino, pulmão, pele, boca, colo de útero e cabeça e pescoço. Nosso principal compromisso é oferecer todo o apoio para que o paciente passe pelo processo de tratamento com qualidade de vida, obtendo assim maior resposta e menos intercorrências, inclusive hospitalares, para permitir, muitas vezes, a cura completa.
Atualmente, a Ilumina atua na macrorregião de Piracicaba, atendendo 26 municípios. Na sede da Associação, localizada na Av. Independência, 171, Centro, Piracicaba/SP, são realizados gratuitamente cerca de 1500 atendimentos nas áreas de Cirurgia Oncológica, Cirurgia Ginecológica, Mastologia, Cirurgia Torácica, Cirurgia de Cabeça e Pescoço, Tabagismo, Nutrição Oncológica, Cuidados Paliativos e Conscientização acerca de fatores de risco para Câncer. Todos os pacientes são atendidos dentro dos padrões de excelência reconhecidos pelo Instituto Nacional do Câncer (INCA), graças a um grupo de 120 voluntários.
