बाबा गुरु घासीदास का जन्म छत्तीसगढ़ के रायपुर जिले में गिरौद नामक ग्राम में हुआ था। गिरौदपुरी गांव जिला रायपुर तहसील बलौदा बाजार विकासखंड कटगी में स्थित है। उनके पिता मंहगू दास तथा माता अमरौतिन और उनकी धर्मपत्नी का नाम सफुरा था।गुरु घासीदास जी का जन्म ऐसे समय हुआ जब समाज में छुआछूत, ऊंचनीच का बोलबाला था, उन्होंने ऐसे समय में समाज को एकता, भाईचारे तथा समरसता का संदेश दिया।
गुरु घासीदास ने समाज के लोगों को सात्विक जीवन जीने की प्रेरणा दी। उन्होंने न सिर्फ सत्य की आराधना की, बल्कि समाज में नई जागृति पैदा की और अपनी तपस्या से प्राप्त ज्ञान और शक्ति का उपयोग मानवता की सेवा के कार्य में किया

The Guru's teachings and philosophy is similar to Hinduism & Buddhism.
He created a symbol of truth called "jaitkhambh" - a white painted log of wood, with a white flag on the top. The structure indicates a white man who follows the truth "satnam" is always steadfast and is the pillar of truth (satya ka stambh). The white flag indicates peace.
