De app Back-Up is ontwikkeld door GGz-instellingen GGzE en Mondriaan. Back-Up is bedoeld als een buddy – vandaar de verwijzing van de naam – die patiënten met veel beeld- en filmmateriaal informatie op maat geeft over iedere stap in de behandeling.De patient krijgt antwoord op vragen zoals “hoe ziet het er uit”?, “Wat ga ik doen?”, “Wat moet ik meenemen?” en “Wie is mijn hulpverlener”. De instellingen willen hiermee de onzekerheid en onbekendheid t.a.v. een behandeling binnen de geestelijke gezondheid te verminderen.
Naast informatie voorziet Back-Up in een dagboek, een agenda en een signaleringsplan (met tips om beter om te gaan met voor de patiënt moeilijke momenten). De behandelaar kan via Back-Up andere voor de patiënt zinvolle apps aanbevelen. De applicatie geeft de patiënt meer grip op en regie over zijn herstelproces.
