Η γιαγιά Σμαραγδένια του παραμυθιού δε διαφέρει πολύ από την εικόνα που έχουμε μέσα μας για την ιδανική γιαγιά των παιδικών μας χρόνων. Στα παιδικά μάτια ακόμα και τα πιο απλά και καθημερινά πράγματα μοιάζουν μεγάλα μυστικά καλά φυλαγμένα και συμβολίζουν κόσμους μαγικούς γεμάτους περιπέτειες. Κι όταν τα παιδικά μάτια μεγαλώσουν και δουν την πραγματικότητα όπως είναι, ακόμα και τότε δεν μπορούν να απομυθοποιήσουν τα μεγάλα αυτά μυστικά γιατί ο κόσμος της γιαγιάς και του παππού παραμένει ένας κόσμος μαγικός μέσα στην ψυχή μας…
Η Σμαραγδή Μητροπούλου γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα. Σπούδασε Ιστορία και Αρχαιολογία στο Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών κι έκανε μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στην Αρχαία Ιστορία στο Cardiff University (Mεγάλη Βρετανία). Είναι, επίσης, διπλωματούχος Δημιουργικής Γραφής (Diploma in Creative Writing) του Κολεγίου Writers’ Bureau (Manchester, UK), ενώ έχει παρακολουθήσει μαθήματα θεατρικής γραφής στο Διεθνές Ινστιτούτο Θεάτρου και σκηνοθεσίας στο Ίδρυμα Τηνιακού Πολιτισμού. ΄Εχει βραβευτεί από την Πανελλήνια ΄Ενωση Λογοτεχνών για τα θεατρικά της έργα: «Η γη της επαγγελίας» και «Πριν ο ήλιος δύσει». ΄Αρθρα της ιστορικού και πολιτιστικού περιεχομένου έχουν δημοσιευτεί στο περιοδικό «5+1» του προγράμματος ΟΙΚΟΥΜΕΝΙΚΟΣ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΣΜΟΣ. Μοιράζει την αγάπη της εξίσου στη διδασκαλία και στη συγγραφή ιστοριών.
