Description

Aim: The mobile application we created enables users to type text on a touch screen using Braille code. It serves a dual purpose: firstly, it is an accessible tool for sending sms messages and emails and secondly, it is a means for efficient and enjoyable Braille learning and practice. We anticipate that BrailleOne could help blind and visually-impaired people benefit from the long-term effects of Braille literacy.

Method: In BrailleOne, the screen is divided in three vertical sectors and is used as a one-hand keyboard. These three sectors represent Braille dots 1, 2 and 3 at first touch, and secondly, dots 4, 5 and 6. First column dots (i.e. 1, 2 and 3) are typed first and appear in blue. The remaining three dots (i.e. 4, 5 and 6) follow and appear in red. Apart from Braille typing, the following functions are also available: Swipe up=Copy to clipboard, Swipe down=Repeat, Swipe left=Delete, Swipe right=Space.
For example, to write “m” (Braille dots 1, 3 and 4), a user must first touch sectors 1 and 3 and then touch sector1 again. To listen to the message you have typed, touch the upper part of the screen.

The application "BrailleOne" won the 1st IMCL Student International Competition for Mobile Learning Apps, held on 19 -20 November 2015, in Thessaloniki, Greece

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.
