Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

1 ★Is there some sort of pay wall? I signed up for an account, it says I don't have access. Okay but how do I get access? No help. Garbage app. Uninstalled. Samsung S23 Ultra running Android 14.
5 ★Luv it 💙
2 ★Usually does not update without issues
1 ★Time for an update...it's been 9 years since I last reviewed this app. Back then, I gave it 1-star for being difficult, clunky, and clumsy to use coupled with the fact that the Mercury News "support" staff couldn't explain how to get it to work. But...good news! Nine years after my original review (1-star), I'm back with an updated review. My update: This app is *still* difficult, clunky, clumsy to use and the Mercury News support staff *still* doesn't know how to explain how to use it.
4 ★I've used this app for 3 years and mostly it works fine. Every year or two I've had a bug to work through. Today I uninstalled it and am reinstalling it because it locked up and the close function didn't work. But for the past two years it wotked great
2 ★Awful. Freezes, awkward interface. But downloads do work.
1 ★Complete garbage. I'll stick with NYT
1 ★Used to work ok. Now gets hung up when trying to open an edition.
2 ★UPDATE: This worked for me. Don't reinstall the app. Instead clear the cache, storage, everything. The next time you launch the app it will ask you to log in again. This worked where logging out/in didn't. Now 2 stars instead of 1 because I can read the Sunday comics. This is my second time giving this company a chance. The app sort of worked for a little while but now nothing loads. It's embarrassing how hard the local paper for Silicon Valley fails
1 ★Takes forever to load and sometimes it doesn't at all. I pay $9.99 a month for digital access and half the time I can't read it.
