डिजिटल इंडिया भारत सरकार की एक पहल है जिसके तहत सरकारी विभागों को देश की जनता से जोड़ना है। इसका उद्देश्य यह सुनिश्चित करना है कि बिना कागज के इस्तेमाल के सरकारी सेवाएं इलेक्ट्रॉनिक रूप से जनता तक पहुंच सकें। इस योजना का एक उद्देश्य ग्रामीण इलाकों को हाई स्पीड इंटरनेट के माध्यम से जोड़ना भी है। डिजिटल इंडिया के तीन कोर घटक हैं-1- डिजिटल आधारभूत ढाँचे का निर्माण करना,
2- इलेक्ट्रॉनिक रूप से सेवाओं को जनता तक पहुंचाना,
3- डिजिटल साक्षरता।
योजना को 2019 तक कार्यान्वयित करने का लक्ष्य है। एक टू-वे प्लेटफॉर्म का निर्माण किया जाएगा जहाँ दोनों (सेवा प्रदाता और उपभोक्ता) को लाभ होगा। यह एक अंतर-मंत्रालयी पहल होगी जहाँ सभी मंत्रालय तथा विभाग अपनी सेवाएं जनता तक पहुंचाएंगें जैसे कि स्वास्थ्य, शिक्षा और न्यायिक सेवा आदि। चयनित रूप से पब्लिक प्राइवेट पार्टनरशिप (पीपीपी) मॉडल को अपनाया जाएगा। इसके अतिरिक्त राष्ट्रीय सूचना केंद्र के पुनर्निर्माण की भी योजना है। यह योजना मोदी प्रशासन की टॉप प्राथमिकता वाली परियोजनाओं में से एक है। यह एक सराहनीय और सभी साझेदारों की पूर्ण समर्थन वाली परियोजना है। जबकि इसमें लीगल फ्रेमवर्क, गोपनीयता का अभाव, डाटा सुरक्षा नियमों की कमी, नागरिक स्वायत्तता हनन, तथा भारतीय ई-सर्विलांस के लिए संसदीय निगरानी की कमी तथा भारतीय साइबर असुरक्षा जैसी कई महत्वपूर्ण कमियाँ भी हैं। डिजिटल इंडिया को कार्यान्वयित करने से पहले इन सभी कमियों को दूर करना होगा।
