WHAT IS AYURVEDA?
Ayurveda (literary "life-knowledge") is a medical system of ancient India and one of the oldest medical systems known in the world. Sanskrit word "dosha" means "something that changes" or "something that can be out of balance".
The correlation of doshas constantly changes keeping up the dynamic balance. These doshas are called Vata (Ether+Air), Pitta (Fire+Water) and Kapha (Earth+Water).
Every person is born with unique combination of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. It determines a person’s physical characteristics, his weak and strong points. Under the influence of external factors (climate, weather, age, nutrition, way of life etc.) the doshas balance in human organism may change. Every dosha should be necessarily balanced, i.e. dosha quantity coming from outside should be equal to dosha quantity coming out of organism. If dosha comes in excessive quantity, it accumulates in the organism and may cause diseases. Ayurvedic treatment is aimed at balancing doshas, i.e. at removing doshas excesses (if any) and maintaining the balance in future.
