आपण जन्म घेतो तेव्हा काही नाती आपल्याला जन्मतःच मिळतात, आई-वडील, भाऊ-बहिण, इ. ही सर्व नाती रक्ताची असतात. तरीदेखील बाहेरच्या काही व्यक्तींशी आपला संबंध येतो. कालांतराने तो संबंध एका वेगळ्या नात्यामध्ये बदलतो. हे नातं रक्ताचं नसतं, हे नातं निर्माण करण्याचं संपुर्ण स्वातंत्र आपल्याला असतं, आणि म्हणुनच 'मैत्री' ह्या नात्याचं महत्त्व रक्ताच्या नात्याइतकंच, कदाचित त्याहूनही श्रेष्ठ आहे.
'मैत्र जीवांचे' कादंबरी लिहिण्यासाठी मला माझ्या एका मित्रानेच सुचविले होते. त्यावेळी मी ही गोष्ट मनावर घेतली नाही. कारण मी लिखाण काम करु शकत नाही हे मला चांगलंच ठाऊक होतं आणि मी उत्कृष्ट लिखाण करु शकतो हे माझ्या मित्र-मैत्रिणींना चांगलं ठाऊक होतं. मग काय? माझ्या नकळत सर्वांनी मला प्रोत्साहन देण्यास सुरुवात केली. याचा परिणाम म्हणुन ८ ऑक्टोबर २०११ रोजी मी 'मैत्र जीवांचे' कादंबरी लिहिण्यास सुरुवात केली आणि अर्ध्यावर थांबवली देखील. काही दिवसांनी माझी भेट एका जुन्या मैत्रिणीशी, शलाकाशी झाली. बऱ्याच दिवसांनी भेट झाल्याने आमच्या गप्पा बराच वेळ रंगल्या. त्या वेळी पुस्तकाचा विषय देखील निघाला. "कोणी काहीही म्हणालं तरी तू तुझं काम अर्ध्यावर सोडू नकोस." असे अनेक सकारात्मक तिच्या मनातुन माझ्या विचारांमध्ये शिरत होते. ज्याप्रमाणे स्त्री-पुरुषाच्या मिलनानंतर एका नव्या जिवाच्या निर्मीतीची सुरुवात होते, अगदी तशीच सुरुवात त्या रात्री आम्हा दोघांच्या वैचारिक मिलनातुन झाली. आणि त्यानंतर ८ जुलै २०१२ रोजी 'मैत्र जीवांचे' कादंबरी पुर्ण करता आली. गंमत म्हणजे लेखन करीत असलेला काळ हा नऊ महिन्यांचा होता. जसं की एक आई आपलं मुलं नऊ महिने आपल्या गर्भात ठेवते, तसंच नऊ महिने संस्कार होऊन ही कादंबरी पुर्ण झाली.
कादंबरी लिहीत असताना मी नव्या पिढीच्या आचरनाचा, जुन्या मैत्रीतील गोडव्याचा, प्रेमाचा, एकटेपणाचा, तंत्रज्ञानाचा पुरेपूर अभ्यास केला. हाती घेतलेलं हे काम पुर्ण करण्यासाठी मला फेसबुकवरील मित्र (गौरव गायकवाड, अश्विनी कुलकर्णी, विशाल कदम, निलेश कळसकर, बेथ्रिज बेविल्कुवा) यांची मदत झाली. नाशिक-पुणे पासुन ते अगदी ब्राझिल-जर्मनीपर्यंत अनेक मित्रमैत्रिणींनी मला मोलाचे सहकार्य केले. मी त्या सर्वांचा ऋुणी आहे. हे सर्व करत असताना कुणीतरी पाठीशी असावं लागतं. कुणाचा तरी आधार असावा लागतो. आणि मला सांगण्यास अतिशय आनंद होत आहे की, माझ्या पहिल्याच पुस्तकाच्या लिखाणासाठी माझ्या वडीलांचा मला हवा तसा पाठिंबा मिळाला. कादंबरी लिहून त्याची पहिली प्रत हाती येईपर्यंत त्यांनी मला अत्यंत मोलाचे मार्गदर्शन केले. माझे वडील हे देखील माझे एक मित्रच आहेत.
ही कादंबरी मैत्रीसारख्या गोड नात्यावर आधारीत असून कादंबरी पुर्ण होण्याचं श्रेय हे माझ्याइतकंच माझे वडील श्री.ज्ञानेश्वर सुधारक ठमके आणि पत्नी शलाका या दोघांना देखील जातं. ही कलाकृती ह्या दोन व्यक्तींमुळेच पुर्ण होऊ शकली.
