SmarterNoise is a sound level meter that measures sound levels in video and audio modes, records video and sound, and informs you about the risks of noise exposure. With SmarterNoise you can also record audio and measure long-term while the app is running in the background.SmarterNoise includes a camera, optional location data, and easy sharing of measurement results as well. From the archive you can go back to the video and audio files you've saved on your phone. With SmarterNoise you take sound level and noise measuring to a new level never available before.

About decibels and sound measurement
The unit for measuring noise and sound is called a decibel. Because the decibel scale is logarithmic, a sound with an intensity that is twice that of a reference sound corresponds to an increase of about 3 decibels. The reference point of 0 decibel is set at the intensity of the least perceptible sound, the threshold of hearing. On such a scale a 10-decibel sound is 10 times the intensity of the reference sound. Highlighting this is important as already a few decibels higher or lower makes a noticeable difference in how noise is perceived.
The preferred method to describe sound levels that vary over time, resulting in a single decibel value measuring the total sound energy over the period is called Leq. It is however common practice to measure sound levels using the A-weighting, which effectively cuts off the lower and higher frequencies, that the average person cannot hear. In this case Leq is written as LAeq. LAeq measures a formulated average which emphasizes higher sound peaks, and is one of the most common measurements used by professionals to measure noise. All averages in SmarterNoise are measured in LAeq.

According to the findings of the World Health Organisation (WHO), noise is the second largest environmental cause of health problems, after the impact of air quality. While environmental awareness in general has increased, the burden from noise has not yet been realized by the general public. People especially in urban environments are subjected to noise during day and night, at home and at work. Noise pollution has increased over the years due to extensive traffic, increased air travel, urbanization, and industrial noise exposure. Because of the complex and frequent issue of everyday noise, we developed SmarterNoise in order for people to understand noise better.

5 ★My experience with this app, is phenomenal . It's almost like it was made just for me. Like I downloaded one before, but not as televised as this one is. I would highly recommend this in hotels or anywhere you hear this sound in your dwellings. WAKE UP ANERICA WORLD. STOP BREATHING IN THE GASSES BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.THEY WILL WIN IF YOU DONT.
1 ★I think I will love app, i saw it work for a few seconds of extreme high noise and then it shut down. Theres also a bug trying to open the camera which is probubaly becausd its under high load being turned on without the user bring aware. Please try to send me a patch ASAP as i need noise data about this phone before I die from using it. I will contne to dump cache and app data becauae tha has been helping to functhions reapear in the menue but then it getting loaded back down with high cache.
4 ★Hi I just downloaded the app. I have been trying to use the video/audio record in my phone to prove how much noise the guy in the condo above me is making. Frm what ive seen this is great,,but cant figure out what im doing wrong with the timer, i set it to record for 30 minutes to monitor the banging and its only recording 11 seconds with each recording? I was hoping to playback the audio/video track while seeing the decibel graph run along the bottom in synch? Does that happen?
5 ★exactly what I wanted. I wanted to show how loud something I was shooting and you can't tell from just video because it muffles automatically, so this gives a visual representation of how loud what your doing is.

Thank you for this excellent app. Easy to use seems accurate. will prove to Animal control what I'm dealing with. Dog close to 100 decibel. Video quality excellent. I would like to reduce the file size.1 min video was 27 mb. Only concern at this time.
