敬語（けいご、英: honorifics[1]）とは、主体（書き手、話し手など）とその相手（読み手、聞き手）やその話題中の人物との社会的関係（親疎、権力の大小）と態度を表す言語表現である。ポライトネスを実現する手段の1つであり、狭義には体系的に文法化されているものを指すが、広く敬称などの語彙的表現を含む場合もある。
日本語などでは複雑に体系化されているが、ヨーロッパ近代語では日本語ほど体系的には使われていない。
ヨーロッパ近代語に敬語があるかないかは敬語の定義次第である。敬語を広く「人物間の上下関係や親疎関係を反映した言語表現」と定義すれば、ヨーロッパ近代語にも以下のような例がある。英語で丁寧な命令文にpleaseを付ける例を始め、学校で生徒が教師に、軍隊で兵士が上官に対する応答の文末にsir/madam（ma'am）を付ける例、2人称代名詞の敬称（動詞の活用も3人称など本来の二人称形と異なる形を用いる）が存在する。英語の二人称代名詞であるyouも、もともとは敬称であった。英語話者が、家族であろうと親しい友人であろうと、常に本来敬称であったyouのみを使うようになったためにyouが敬称としての意味を失い、敬称でない（親称の）thouが忘れ去られるに至ったものである。
日本のような尊敬語、謙譲語とすると、英語にはない。
マナーは国や民族、文化、時代、宗教のさまざまな習慣によって形式が異なる。ある国では美徳とされていることが、他の国では不快に思われることもある。「テーブルマナー」を例にすれば、日本では食事の際に飯椀を持ち上げて食べることが一般的であるが、逆に皿を食卓に置いたまま箸や匙、フォークを用いるのが一般的とされる国もある。
