How it woks?
Baddroids is a mobile application aimed at detecting malware on Android-based mobile devices.
Baddroids executes in background and transparently analyses the applications as soon as they are installed before they have the opportunity to infect the device.
Baddroids relies on static analysis techniques and the features provided by the Android OS to build up sound and complete models of Android apps in terms of both permissions and API invocations.
Then, Baddroids leverages ad-hoc modifications of state-of-the-art machine learning techniques in order to allow an efficient early detection of a malware on mobile.
More in details, Baddroids statically analyzes the declared permissions and the API invocations, then, on the basis of this information, a data-driven malware detection system is built.
By exploiting the intrinsic nature of the data it has been possible to implement a state-of-the-art data-driven model which provides deep insights on the malware detection problem and can be easily deployed on a device with a very limited impact on the battery consumption.
An extensive experimental session, performed over more than seven thousand malware apps and seven thousand goodware apps, shows that Baddroids outperforms the currently available solutions in terms of accuracy, which is around 99%, and provides a level of performance compatible with local execution on the mobile device with no need to rely on cloud-based services.
