The foremost field guide to Australian birds is now available on the Android.

Michael Morcombe's Field Guide to Australian Birds has been called the most comprehensive field guide to Australian birds in the market today and now it is perfectly complimented by the eGuide which features:

● Optimised controls – swipe to next or previous species, one-tap enlargement of an image and rotate the device (landscape) to enlarge an image completely (and fit the width of the screen).
● Over 230 hi-res bird images covering 59 bird species.
● Most bird species have a detailed distribution map showing any subspecies that occur.
● Detailed text descriptions of almost all bird species including songs and calls, measurements and breeding behaviour.
● Over 170 carefully-selected and edited sound recordings. Many species are represented with multiple call examples showing the full range of vocalizations.
● The ability to compare any two images, maps, or sounds, side by side on the screen.
● The ability to filter by geographic location, so that you see only the species likely to occur in your location, and to further reduce the possibilities to usual or vagrant species in the selected area.
● A "Smart Search" that gives the ability to search by distinguishing features such as size, colour, physical features, habitat and exclude certain types of birds (eg. Passerines).
● *A basic personal species list that stores your sightings saved to the device (ability to upload list coming soon)
● A comprehensive help and introduction section to help you if you get stuck or don’t understand how a certain feature works.

* Uninstalling/reinstalling the program will result in the loss of your list, it is recommended that you keep a backup from the application (My List -> Export).

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

1 ★This lite version keeps crashing. It wants database installed after downloading it 3 times already. Not going to buy full version under these circumstances.
1 ★Non-functional on current android versions
4 ★Easy to access
1 ★Doesn't work on phone running Android 10, says it is built for earlier version.
5 ★Brilliant. We use the list of birds you've found as our list of birds to call in. Now, now, don't judge, mangrove birds need to be called especially when you are on a time crunch (aka you do it as a guide). I have always found the book also most useful especially when you're out of your own area you can find a bird in the book and play the call and cross match to find your unknown species
1 ★Does this app only have 59 types of birds, or is it just me? I emailed mydigitalearth, and received the following reply. "Hi, There should only be 30 on the Lite app? Are you not using the full version. Kind regards Dianne". And just to inform you, changing the location to All locations (which the app is defaulted to), does absolutely nothing. Needless to say, I have deleted this app, as 30-59 birds to choose from is next to useless. It remains a 1/5 stars from me.
1 ★Only has a database of 59 birds. Pretty darn useless.
1 ★Only lists 59 birds after selecting all locations. Doesn't even list the birds I've seen in my own backyard!
1 ★A total waste of time. Search and alphabetic search gave no responses to the most basic requests. Eg.searching for cuckoo gave the response 'no results could be found for your search'. I did pay for the full version when i had an apple phone but after seeing what the android lite version is like im not going to chance my money on the full version.
1 ★Did not search for me.
