Bibel. Lutherbibel (1912)Die Lutherbibel (Abk. LB) ist eine Übersetzung des Alten und Neuen Testaments der Bibel aus der althebräischen, der aramäischen bzw. der altgriechischen Sprache in die deutsche Sprache (Frühneuhochdeutsch). Die Übersetzung wurde von Martin Luther unter Mitarbeit weiterer Theologen (insbesondere Philipp Melanchthons) angefertigt. Im September 1522 war eine erste Auflage des Neuen Testamentes fertig (daher auch die Bezeichnung Septembertestament), 1534 eine vollständige Bibel.
Übersetzung des Neuen Testaments
Es wird in der evangelischen Überlieferung sehr stark herausgestellt, dass Luther sich in diesen Wochen von der traditionellen lateinischen Vulgata radikal ab- und dem griechischen Urtext zugewandt habe. Dennoch ist der Einfluss der Vulgata stark spürbar in Luthers Neuem Testament. Die Lutherbibel repräsentiert so das Erbe der mittelalterlich-lateinischen Tradition im deutschen Sprachraum bis heute.
So heißt es in Phil 4,7: „Vnd der friede Gottes / welcher höher ist / denn alle vernunfft / beware ewre hertzen vnd sinne in Christo Jhesu.“ Dieser sogenannte Kanzelsegen ist für die evangelische Liturgie besonders wichtig. Selbst die aktuelle Revision der Lutherbibel von 1984 konserviert die Textgestalt der alten Vulgata „Et pax Dei … custodiat corda vestra“ (bewahre eure Herzen), während die Nova Vulgata nach dem griechischen Urtext korrigiert: „… custodiet corda vestra“ (wird eure Herzen bewahren).
Übersetzung des Alten Testaments
Das in kurzer Zeit und in einer persönlich hoch belastenden Situation von Luther übersetzte „Septembertestament“ ist zwar die eigene Leistung des Reformators. Schaut man jedoch auf das dann in Wittenberg in Angriff genommene Alte Testament, so stellt sich die Lutherbibel auch als Gemeinschaftswerk dar; Luthers Sprachkompetenz war im Griechischen höher als im Hebräischen.
