Początki Radia Rodzina Diecezji Kaliskiej sięgają roku 1992, ponieważ już wtedy rozpoczęto starania o przydzielenie samodzielnej koncesji radiowej. Najpierw dotyczyły one uregulowań w zakresie częstotliwości radiowej. Po wielu zabiegach i spełnieniu formalności wymaganych przez Krajową Radę Radiofonii i Telewizji, ostatecznie 15 lipca 1994 roku, diecezja kaliska otrzymała koncesję na nadawanie programu radiowego drogą naziemną na częstotliwości 103,1 MHz. Przydzielone pasmo w pierwszym etapie realizacji koncesji zostało zagospodarowane przez Radio Maryja.Wreszcie w grudniu 1997 roku ksiądz biskup Stanisław Napierała powołał Diecezjalne Radio Rodzina, jako odrębną instytucję w strukturach diecezji kaliskiej.
