Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru: A Dictionary of the Welsh Language is the Welsh-language equivalent of the Oxford English Dictionary. In contrast with GPC Online (http://gpc.wales), you can download the entire contents of the Dictionary to your device so it can be used offline. Every word is defined in Welsh with English synonyms and illustrative quotations, together with the word’s etymology, and grammatical information such as the gender and plurals of nouns.

Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru is the largest Welsh dictionary with
- 124,500 headwords
- 7,150 variant forms
- 34,400 collocations (phrases)
- 475,000 illustrative quotations with source references
- over 60,000 cross-references
The headwords, variant forms, and collocations are searchable by word or phrase. Accents, numerals, and apostrophes are ignored to simplify input - instead all matches are listed for you to choose from.
Fuzzy searching: If the app fails to find the word you are searching for it will suggest similar words.
The app searches automatically for mutated forms in order to find additional results.
You can use wildcards (‘*’, ‘?’, ‘+’).
You can search the English synonyms, using the same wildcards.
You can use the app online, with no data downloaded. Alternatively you can download all the data (about 185MB) via WiFi and use it offline. If you don’t have enough room on your device, you can download the data without the quotations (about 132MB).
The app contains two word games - an anagram game and a hidden-word game - with clues based on the definitions in the Dictionary. The selection of words can be confined to your recent searches - particularly useful for learners to practice new vocabulary.
There is a ‘Help’ section to answer frequently asked questions and to supply further information.

5 ★Very helpful, and it has unusual words as well as phrases and expressions - and if you want to, historical examples of its usage. You can choose English or Welsh as the operative language (but all grammatical abbreviations are in Welsh regardless).

5 ★No ads, just definitions. The gold standard of Welsh dictionaries.
4 ★Good app. I don't like it asking me about language of interface EVERY TIME I LAUNCH the app. Plus it fails to open keyboard from time to time. As an improvement please allow A COPY FROM CLIPBOARD & SEARCH feature. There should be a few useful options to toggle on/off in settings. From a learner point of view, it would be helpful to hear pronounciation and have a possibility to copy & review some of new words. This app has great potential. ThQ
1 ★Hey developers can you do something about that circle that spins in the center of the app, it seems like it's loading but nothing happens it just keeps spinning can you guys fix it please and the words take a while to load
3 ★The download is failing, usually after 60%. The message about the failed download is hidden behind another dialogue box until I select “remote” in that second dialog box. Anyone who doesn't select “remote” will get an unexplained crash. I hope you can fix this, because I've used the app on a previous phone and I liked it. (Google Pixel 6 with up-to-date GrapheneOS) (Sorry, duplicate comment — I didn't see that the original had uploaded itself successfully)
