O Cantor Cristão foi o segundo hinário dos evangélicos brasileiros.Foi publicado em 1891 e sua primeira versão continha apenas 16 hinos.
As edições se sucederam, sendo sempre acrescidas de hinos novos.
Em 1921 saiu a 17a edição do hinário, já com 571 hinos, dos quais 102 eram de autoria ou tradução de Salomão Luiz Ginsburg.
Três anos mais tarde, em 1924, o hinário saiu pela primera vez com música, pois até então só continha as letras com os hinos.
Desde que Salomão Luiz Ginsburg editou o Cantor Cristão em 1891, muitos outros têm colaborado.
William Edwin Entzminger (72 hinos), Henry Maxwell Wright (61 hinos), Manoel Avelino de Souza (29 hinos) e Ricardo Pitrowsky (23 hinos) são os que mais letras ou traduções fizeram no atual Cantor Cristão.
A 54a edição foi a última feita pela JUERP e é a até hoje usada e comercializada.
Em 1991 a JUERP lançou o Hinário para o Culto Cristão (HCC) que também faz parte significativa da hinódia evangélica brasileira dos nossos dias.
