역사는 지나간 사람의 삶에 대한 기록이자 기억입니다.
우리는 흔히 “역사가 사람을 지혜롭게 만든다”고 말합니다.
이 말은 곧 “오늘을 사는 우리가 역사에서 내일을 사는 교훈을 얻는다”는 뜻일 것입니다.
나라에 따라 역사를 기록하고 기억하는 일은 다를 수 있습니다.
그렇지만 역사에서 지혜와 교훈을 얻는 일은 같습니다.
동북아역사재단은 우리나라의 역사를 소중히 여기는 만큼,
다른 나라의 역사도 존중합니다.
그리고 역사에서 지혜와 교훈을 찾아 다른 나라와 평화롭게 공생(共生)하는
세상을 만들려는 노력을 아끼지 않고 있습니다.
동북아시아의 여러 나라는 오랜 역사 과정에서 때로는 교류하고 협력하며
때로는 충돌하고 대립하였습니다.
그리하여 역사인식에서 서로 이해하고 인정하는 측면도 있지만
오해하고 무시하는 경우도 많습니다.
동북아역사재단은 우리나라의 역사뿐만 아니라
다른 나라의 역사에 대해서도 넓고 깊게 연구하고 논의하여
역사인식을 둘러싼 반목과 갈등을 극복하고 화해와 신뢰의
동북아시아공동체를 구축하는데 기여할 것입니다.
혼자 가는 길은 외롭고 쓸쓸하지만 함께 가는 길은 신나고 즐겁습니다.
역사 화해와 평화 공생을 지향하는 동북아역사재단의 각종 연구사업과 역사대화 등에
