-Determina la textura de un suelo dependiendo del porcentaje de Arena, limo y arcilla, de acuerdo al triángulo de textura del USDA.-Clasifica el tipo de suelo de acuerdo a su pH.
La textura tiene que ver con la facilidad con que se puede trabajar el suelo, la cantidad de agua y aire que retiene y la velocidad con que el agua penetra en el suelo y lo atraviesa.
Para conocer la textura de una muestra de suelo, separe primero la tierra fina*, todas las partículas de menos de 2 mm, de las partículas mayores como la grava y las piedras. La tierra fina es una mezcla de arena, limo y arcilla.
Cómo determinar las proporciones aproximadas de arena, limo y arcilla de manera rápida??:

Esta es una prueba sencilla que dará una idea general de las proporciones de arena, limo y arcilla presentes en el suelo.
1.- Coloque 5 cm de suelo en una botella y llénala de agua.
2.- Agítala bien y déjela reposar durante una hora. Transcurrido este tiempo, el agua estará transparente y observará que las partículas mayores se han sedimentado.
3.- En el fondo hay una capa de arena.
4.-En el centro hay una capa de limo.
5.- En la parte superior hay una capa de arcilla. Si el agua no está completamente transparente ello se debe a que parte de la arcilla más fina está todavía mezclada con el agua.
6.- En la superficie del agua pueden flotar fragmentos de materia orgánica
7.- Mida la profundidad de la arena, el limo y la arcilla y calcule la proporción aproximada de cada uno
